Externalities from urban renewal: Evidence from a French program

We contribute to the evaluation of urban renewal policies based on a large-scale program launched in France 2004. Using an estimator aimed at avoiding bias estimation treatment effects that are heterogeneous across groups or time periods, and complementing its results with more precise double fixed difference-in-differences estimator, we find no significant aggregate impact housing prices. identify four dampening factors can explain this lack impact: sometimes insufficient level funding per neighborhood, stigma effect most deprived neighborhoods, isolation some neighborhoods located far from city centers, concentration program's types operations associated small impacts
